PDF to Word: what text extraction can and cannot do
A PDF describes how content appears on a page. A Word document describes editable paragraphs, sections and other elements. Moving between these formats is not always a simple one-to-one conversion.
What this tool does
PDF to Word collects selectable text and creates a DOCX document. Flowing text is useful when you plan to rewrite or reorganize it. Page-separated text inserts a break between original pages.
What needs review
Text may be stored in an order different from its visual arrangement. Multiple columns, footnotes, tables and unusual fonts can lead to awkward reading order. Review names, amounts and dates against the PDF before relying on them. Pictures and original formatting are not copied by this tool.
Scans need another step
A scan is a picture of text. Unless it already has a selectable text layer, extraction will not recover its words. That requires optical character recognition, or OCR, which is outside the current tool’s scope.
The best source when available
If you have the original Word file, edit that instead. PDF text extraction is most useful when the original is unavailable and your goal is to recover editable wording.
