Good to know before you begin
Flattening is permanent in the new copy: fields can no longer be filled in or changed, and a digital signature will no longer be valid. Annotations without a visible appearance are left as they were, and links stay clickable. Encrypted PDFs cannot be changed. Keep your original file.
How to flatten a PDF
- Choose a PDF, or drop it into the file area.
- Leave Flatten form fields and Flatten comments, stamps and drawings ticked, or untick the one you want to keep editable.

Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and flattened in your browser on your own device.
Why flatten a filled form?
A flattened form shows the same answers to everyone and cannot be changed by accident. Some upload portals and printers also handle flattened files more reliably.
Can I undo flattening?
Not in the flattened copy. The original file on your device is not changed, so keep it if you may need to edit the form again.
