How privacy works

Prove it’s private

This panel counts the network requests this page makes after you choose a file, and how much each one sends. Your file is read and changed on this device. Our code never sends it anywhere.

  • Requests since you chose a file –
  • To pdfreadygo.com, for tool code and fonts –
  • To ad and analytics services –
  • Requests that sent a file or binary data –
  • Most data sent in one request –

Before you chose a file, this page made 0 requests to load itself, its ads and its analytics. This counter can’t see inside ad frames, and ad frames can’t read your file. It also doesn’t list the tool’s background workers, which only load code from this site.

Test it yourself with airplane mode

  1. Open this page while you are online and wait a few seconds, so it can save itself for offline use.
  2. Turn on airplane mode, or turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  3. Choose your file and run the tool. It still works, because nothing has to be sent.

A few extras, such as the HEIC photo decoder, are only saved after you first use them. Offline, they show an error instead of sending anything.

Take a photo of each page, or choose photos you already have. The tool looks for the edges of the paper, crops the page and straightens it as if it had been scanned flat. Enhance evens out shadows and makes the paper white, and black and white keeps text sharp in a small file. Your photos stay on this device the whole time.

Good to know before you begin

Pages are saved as pictures, so the text can’t be searched or copied. This tool doesn’t include text recognition (OCR). Edge finding works best with a light page on a darker, plain surface. If it picks the wrong shape, drag the corners yourself. Use live camera only shows up in browsers that allow camera access. Where it doesn’t, Take a photo opens your phone’s camera instead.

How to scan a document to PDF

  1. Select Take a photo to use your phone camera, or Choose photos to pick pictures you already took. Where your browser allows it, Use live camera lets you capture page after page without leaving this page.
  2. Check each page. Select ✎ to drag the corners to the edges of the paper, and use the arrows to change the order.
  3. Pick an Enhance look. Black and white suits printed text, and Enhanced color suits forms with stamps or colored ink.
  4. If a site has an upload limit, pick a Target size.
  5. Select Create PDF →, then Download result ↓.

Tips for a clear scan

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Photos and camera pictures are processed in your browser on your own device. You can check this with the Prove it’s private panel above.

Does it work offline?

Yes, after you have opened this page once while online. Photos from Take a photo are JPG files and need nothing extra. HEIC photos from your gallery need a decoder that is only saved after its first use, unless your browser opens HEIC by itself.

Can I search the text in the PDF?

No. Each page is saved as a picture. This tool doesn’t include text recognition (OCR).

How many pages can one scan have?

Up to 50 pages. For more, make several PDFs and join them with Merge PDF.

Can I make the PDF smaller for an upload?

Yes. Pick a Target size, or choose Black and white, which makes the smallest files. To shrink a PDF you already have, use Compress PDF.

Why didn’t it find the page edges?

It looks for a light page on a darker background. On a white table, or with a busy background, it can miss. Select ✎ and drag the corners yourself, or take the photo again on a darker surface.
