How privacy works

Prove it’s private

This panel counts the network requests this page makes after you choose a file, and how much each one sends. Your file is read and changed on this device. Our code never sends it anywhere.

  • Requests since you chose a file –
  • To pdfreadygo.com, for tool code and fonts –
  • To ad and analytics services –
  • Requests that sent a file or binary data –
  • Most data sent in one request –

Before you chose a file, this page made 0 requests to load itself, its ads and its analytics. This counter can’t see inside ad frames, and ad frames can’t read your file. It also doesn’t list the tool’s background workers, which only load code from this site.

Test it yourself with airplane mode

  1. Open this page while you are online and wait a few seconds, so it can save itself for offline use.
  2. Turn on airplane mode, or turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  3. Choose your file and run the tool. It still works, because nothing has to be sent.

A few extras, such as the HEIC photo decoder, are only saved after you first use them. Offline, they show an error instead of sending anything.

A phone photo is often 2 to 5 MB, which is 100 to 250 times more than 20 KB. To close that gap, the tool lowers the pixel size and the JPEG quality together, then keeps the sharpest version that still fits. It opens JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC files, and it always saves a JPG.

Good to know before you begin

This tool changes the size of an image. It can’t tell whether a portal will accept your photo, and PDFReadyGo is not connected to any government body, exam board, university or employer. Background, lighting and pose still matter, so check the rules on the site you are uploading to. Transparent areas in a PNG become white.

How to resize a photo to 20 KB

  1. Select Choose a photo, or drag your image onto the box.
  2. Leave Maximum size in KB at 20. If the form also gives a lowest size, type it in Minimum size in KB.
  3. If the form asks for exact pixels, type them in Width in pixels and Height in pixels. If it doesn’t, leave both empty and the tool keeps the shape of your photo.
  4. For a signature, set If the shape changes to Fit inside, with white edges, so no part of it gets cut off. For a face photo, keep Crop to fill, from the center.
  5. Select Resize photo →, check the preview and the line under Your file is ready., then select Download result ↓.

Where a 20 KB limit usually comes from

Most 20 KB limits are for signatures, and some are for small ID photos. The limit is often a range, with a minimum as well as a maximum.

If your form gives a range like 10 to 20 KB, type both numbers. A file below the minimum can be refused just like one above the maximum, and the tool tells you if it can’t reach the minimum.

How to keep it readable at 20 KB

What we got in our tests

We ran the tool on this page with real files on Nov 3, 2026, in Chrome with an Android phone profile and in Safari’s engine with an iPhone profile. The sizes below are what the tool showed in Chrome. Safari builds JPG files a little differently, so its sizes were not the same, but every file in both browsers came out under the limit.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is read and resized in your browser on your own device.

Why did my photo end up so small in pixels?

When the form doesn’t set a width and height, the tool reduces the pixel size until a good quality fits under 20 KB. If you need a set size, type it in, and the tool lowers the quality instead.

Is 20 KB counted as 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?

Portals differ, and few say. The tool aims at or under 20,000 bytes, which fits either way.

My 140 × 60 signature won’t reach the 10 KB minimum. Why?

A clean signature on white paper at 140 × 60 pixels is very light. In our test it came out at 8.6 KB even at 100% quality, and the tool said it was below the minimum. A larger pixel size adds bytes: at 280 × 120 the same signature reached just over 10 KB. Check what your portal accepts before you change the pixel size. Because some portals count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, set your minimum a little above theirs, such as 11 KB for a 10 KB minimum.

My form wants a PDF under 20 KB. Can I do that?

Yes, for a one-page document. Use Compress PDF to 20 KB. A multi-page scan may not get that small.
